MyHeart – a great resource for heart kids growing up!

As a parent of a heart kid, we want to make sure you are aware of a fantastic resource that HeartKids has developed called MyHeart.

MyHeart is a place for teens and young adults with childhood heart disease to stay informed, connected and supported throughout their period of transition into adulthood. The site contains important educational resources specifically tailored to 13 to 22 year olds living with a heart condition, and it helps them to connect with others in a similar situation by sharing and learning from each other’s stories and experiences.

As you are probably aware, many heart kids in this age group unfortunately drop out of health care as they move into adulthood which can lead to poorer health outcomes. A major aim of MyHeart is to create a community which keeps these heart kids engaged and aware of the importance of maintaining their follow up as they enter into adult health care.

MyHeart is an interactive, upbeat site and it is soon to get even more interesting with videos and live chats planned from people that this group will find really interesting and inspirational! So if your heart kid is between 13 and 22 years old, please urge them to become a member of MyHeart. Registration is simple and free – just click here.

Plus, there are also some great resources specifically for parents to help you to understand what is ahead for your child, and to help you to guide them through this important phase in their life as a heart kid.  Click here to find out more.

Please let us know if you have any questions. And if you or your heart kid have any suggestions on any topics you’d like MyHeart to cover, or people you’d like to hear from – we’d love to hear your thoughts! Please contact linda.clark@heartkids.org.au with any feedback.
